Well Fixed Cake Mistake!

I'm a little ashamed. Usually I'm a good baker, I swear! But this cake has been a burden- for starters I began making it last night for no particular reason, then realised how busy I was and shoved the batter in the fridge for this afternoon. Then I decided to be creative and throw some Maltesers in the mix (note to self: Maltesers don't bake well). And after all of that I got distracted while it was in the over so it burnt. Badly.

But I used my initiative and fixed the whole situation! I'd already begun making the batch of vanilla buttercream to ice the cake. So I cut off the black outside of the cake to reveal the perfectly yummy inside, cut that up into little pieces and mixed it into the bowl of buttercream. Following this, I rolled the mixture into little balls, placed in cupcake holders and shoved them in the fridge for a couple of hours to set. Waste not, want not, eh?

As you can see from the incredibly genuine, non-posed photo of my friends thoroughly enjoying their cake/icing balls, they went down well.

So next time you make a cake that doesn't go to plan, you know what to do!
